Hey guys! This week, Better Call Saul took a break from Gus and Mike‘s story and focused solely on the McGill brothers as they went full-on courtroom drama with a brother-vs.-brother showdown between Jimmy and Chuck.
The episode opened with a flashback, Chuck prepared an elaborate meal on a camp stove for Rebecca (his ex-wife) who was coming for dinner. She didn’t know about Chuck’s electricity allergy and Jimmy urged him to tell her the truth but Chuck didn’t take Jimmy’s advice. Later that night, Chuck had a panic attack when Rebecca answered her cell phone after dinner so he grabbed the phone away from her, threw it to the ground, and accused her of having very bad manners instead of explaining his illness.
Kim alerted Mesa Verde to a potential bad publicity as a result of Chuck’s allegations against Jimmy, who she shares office space with and the fact that there was a case pending against him. She assured Mesa Verde that it would not affect them in any way but just had to let them know.
Jimmy prepared to face Chuck and the disciplinary board and paid a visit to Mike‘s guy (the local veterinarian who represents and gets clients for petty criminals). He informed the Dr that he was looking for someone with a light touch, leaving us to wonder if another Breaking Bad character was going to make an appearance and who it would be.
Court day was here and preparations were made to get the courtroom ready for Chuck’s sensitivity. Kim managed to poke a few holes in Howard’s testimony, supporting her argument that it was a family conflict rather than a legal one and Jimmy kept looking around the room for someone who was not there and Francesca whispered that there was a flight delay.
The infamous tape was finally played and it seemed like Jimmy had lost then Chuck arrived to give his testimony and collided with Huell Babineaux (remember him from Breaking Bad? He was Saul Goodman‘s bodyguard) on his way up the stairs to the courtroom.
It turned out the person Jimmy had been looking out for was Rebecca, who Chuck assumed was present in an attempt on Jimmy’s part to upset and make him mess up his testimony. She insisted she came just to show support and still cared about Chuck.
Jimmy questioned Chuck and had him talk at length about his disease, specifically about the pain he experiences when he’s anywhere close to a source of electricity then he went in for the kill. Jimmy reached for his breast pocket and brought out his phone but Chuck caught on to the trick that the battery had been removed from the phone. Then Jimmy told Chuck to reach for his own breast pocket and a cell phone battery which Huell (who was now sitting in the gallery) placed in Chuck’s pocket an hour and 43 minutes ago when he ran into him earlier but Chuck did not feel a thing.
Chuck started ranting about how Jimmy had done worse things, how he defecated through a sun roof and he saved him when he shouldn’t have, how he should have stopped him when he had the chance and how the court had to stop him! He stopped, realizing he had misspoke, but it was too late. The room was silent, they all stared at Chuck and the expressions of the disciplinary board members said a lot as Chuck stared at the one source of electric light in the room: a bright red, faintly buzzing exit sign.
